The year 1977 film Sholay and Aina ne  AK Hangal was recognized. In the year 2006, AK Hangal was also honored with the Padma Bhushan award for acting in films. AK Hangal spent his entire life alone. His wife had passed away long back and they have only one son. His son lived in a flat near his house. According to media reports, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray had banned AK Hangal’s films in the year 1993. Bal Thackeray did not like AK Hangal’s participation in Pakistan’s National Day. AK Hangal was such an actor whose performance was enough for a few films to appreciate. AK Hangal, who proved his acting skills in many great films, died on 26 August 2012 at the age of 98.
