Doctors at a Hyderabad hospital have efficiently carried out three double-lung transplant surgical procedures inside 24 hours.

The transplantation surgical procedure carried out at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is claimed to be the first-ever in Asia and throughout the globe.

“Each of the recipients was at an advanced stage of lung failure and required external oxygen support for survival,” he added.

“When a patient waits for life saving organ transplant this wait can be excruciatingly long and painful. At this point the availability of the matching donor organ comes as a blessing. As Transplant physicians our responsibility lies in making this happen and being prepared for such situations every single hour of the day,” Dr Attawar stated.
