Team India’s captain Virat Kohli on Thursday announced to give up the captaincy of the T20 format after the T20 World Cup. After Virat Kohli, it is almost certain that Rohit Sharma will become the new captain. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has suggested the name of KL Rahul for the vice-captain. The road to becoming the vice-captain is not an easy one for Rahul.
Sunil Gavaskar said that India should prepare Lokesh Rahul as the captain of the future. Gavaskar wants BCCI to make Rahul the vice-captain of India for the time being. Gavaskar said, “It is a good thing that BCCI is looking forward. It is important to look ahead.
Gavaskar said, “If India wants to prepare a new captain, then Rahul can be seen. He has performed well. Even now in England his batting was very good. He is also doing well in IPL and 50 overs cricket at international level. He can be made the vice-captain.
Not an easy road for Rahul
KL Rahul has captaincy experience in IPL. For the last two seasons, KL Rahul is commanding the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. Although Rahul has performed well with the bat after getting the captaincy, but he has not been able to get the team the title so far.
The path to becoming the vice-captain is not easy for KL Rahul because Team India has a good leadership group. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant also have captaincy experience in the IPL. Apart from this, Jasprit Bumrah is also in the race to become the new vice-captain.
